Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task

What we were asked to do?
Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges 4 lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

When we were told about this task we were asked to be in a group with other people who we haven't worked with before so i chosse to work with Ben, Sophie and Emmie. When we sat down to think of some ideas gdwuuew

The three main ideas we had were?
Break up
Work
 Being followed

After some reserch we decided to use the Break up Idea after this we decided to start storyboarding.

 Filming

When we started storyboarding for our task I decided to put my self forward for the male character, because of my previous acting and knowledge of drama. I also was similar age and target for our target market. For the female character we wanted to use Sophie but it came quite clear that Sophie’s lack of confidence in front of the camera was going to ruin the pace and what we wanted to achieve from our short film. So I decided to ask a girl who I do drama with and doesn’t mind being in front of the camera witch made the filming side a lot easier because we have preformed together before it felt very natural and this is what we wanted to achieve from our short film.

The first location we used was the male toilets because it’s like the character could be alone when thinking about what he wants to do about the situation at hand. The audience can see that the character is very nervous from his facial expression in the mirror showing he is uneasy about what is going to happen.

The next location we used was in the 6th form in the quad because it is a long walk way where the character can walk up showing the length of time he has taken to make his mind up about the situation. All shows his isolation and loneliness about the choice he has made.

The point of the next shot in the hall where we just see the characters feet is there to show continuity to make the final walk to his girlfriend is a long one.

As the male character opens the door we see a mid shot from outside the room where the exchange will happen which then straight cuts to the inside of the room as the male character walks through to a close on his face to see his nervous expression.
